A chapel in Tallinn handed over to the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate
A chapel in Tallinn was handed over to the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate on 17 October 2009. It was built by a Russian merchant in the so-called ‘Green Market’ where Russian merchants used to sell greens. In the Soviet time the chapel was closed and since the last century 80s it was tended by the Parish of St. Alexander Nevsky but registered as a property in abeyance.
In 2008, it was transferred to the city and later the city decided to hand it over to the Parish of St. Alexander Nevsky for perpetual use. At present it is under repairs to be soon completed.
On October 17, the parish held a procession with the cross to the chapel, prayer service and an opening ceremony. The celebrations were led by Metropolitan Kornily of Tallinn and All Estonia and Bishop Lazar of Narva and were attended, among others, by the Tallinn Mayor Edgar Savisaar.
