On June 5, 2026, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, visited in Addis Ababa the cemetery named in honor of the Holy Chief Apostles Peter and Paul, where he served a memorial litia for departed compatriots.
Many Russians who lived in Ethiopia in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries are buried in this necropolis. Among them are K.N. Lishin, Minister-Resident (Ambassador) of the Russian Empire to Abyssinia; Archpriest Pavel Voronovsky, rector of the first Russian parish dedicated to the Holy Trinity in Addis Ababa; representatives of the noble Tatishchev and Turgenev families; and other natives of Russia.
