DECR Chairman Meets with Permanent Members of the Synod of the Ethiopian Church

On June 3, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, visited the Synodal Residence in Addis Ababa, where he met with Archbishop Abuna Dioscoros of Raya, General Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Ethiopian Church. He then held talks at the Administrative Center of the Ethiopian Patriarchate with Archbishop Abuna Sawiros of West Shoa, Chief Administrator of the Ethiopian Church. Both meetings were attended by Archbishop Abuna Philipos of South Omo, Permanent Member of the Synod and Co-Chairman of the Commission for Dialogue between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Church.

The participants discussed the current development of cooperation between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Church in the context of decisions adopted by the Primates and Holy Synods of both Churches and implemented through the activities of the Commission for Bilateral Cooperation.

Among the topics discussed were issues relating to the dialogue between the Local Orthodox Churches and the Oriental Orthodox Churches, various aspects of cooperation among Christian communities on the African continent, and a number of other subjects.

The meetings were also attended by Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), Secretary for Inter-Christian Affairs of the DECR, and Fr. Alexander Ershov, Assistant to the DECR Chairman.
