A Meeting Took Place Between Metropolitan Anthony and Russian Compatriots in Ethiopia

On the evening of June 4, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, visited the Russian Center for Science and Culture (Russian House) in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.

Accompanied by the Director of the Russian Center for Science and Culture, V.V. Golovachev, the archpastor toured the premises of the Russian House, including a room equipped for the prayer needs of compatriots, where services are regularly conducted according to the rite for lay-led worship.

A conversation took place between Metropolitan Anthony and the staff of the Russian House, representatives of the Russian Embassy and Trade Mission, compatriots residing in the Ethiopian capital, and graduates of Soviet and Russian universities. The Metropolitan spoke about his visit to Ethiopia and about the external activities of the Moscow Patriarchate, one of whose important areas is the development of contacts with the Oriental Orthodox Churches, in particular with the Ethiopian Church. Topics concerning the pastoral care of compatriots residing in Ethiopia were discussed. The DECR Chairman answered numerous questions from those gathered at the event.
