His Holiness Patriarch Kirill commemorates victims of Moscow metro terrorist attack

On 29 March 2011, the anniversary of the Moscow metro terrorist attack, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia conducted a requiem service for the victims at the Church of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God at the Patriarch’s residence in Moscow, Patriarch’s press office reports.

Prior to the service, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed those gathered, saying:

“A year has passed since the tragic day of bombing at ‘Lubyanka’ and “Park Kultury’ metro stations leaving forty people killed and eighty-eight injured. Today I would like to repeat the well-known words: Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten.

The Church cherishes a special memory of both the joyful and tragic events. First of all, we offer up our prayers to the Lord for rest of the the souls of those perished as these people need our prayers most of all. While commemorating the dead in our prayers, we remember the living – those who have suffered from the bombing and the relatives of those who died. We beseech the Lord to grant them spiritual and physical recovery. We pray for our Fatherland, asking the Lord to keep the country and its people from intestine strife, terrorist attacks, violence, and death through evil will brought to the life of our nation. We believe that the Lord will mercifully heed our prayers. Let us pray.”
