Moscow Representation of the Patriarchate of Serbia celebrates its patron saint’s day

On July 12, 2011, the Moscow Representation of the Serbian Orthodox Church celebrated the memory of its patron saint at the church of Sts Peter and Paul at the Yauza Gates in Moscow.

The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Metropolitan Athanasios of Kyrenia, Patriarchate of Alexandria. He was assisted by an assembly of bishops and priests from Local Orthodox Churches. Among the worshippers were Serbian Ambassador Jelica Kurjak and S. Popov, chairman of the State Duma committee for public and religious organizations.

After the service, Archbishop Mark of Yegoryevsk addressed the congregations, saying in particular, ‘For the Orthodox in Moscow, in recent years the Day of Sts Peter and Paul has become a feast associated with Serbia and the Serbian Church. For a long time the Serbian Church was headed by a Patriarch who bore the name of the holy Apostle Paul, and the church representing the Serbian Orthodox Church is dedicated to the holy apostles’. Archbishop Mark expressed wishes of good health and well-being to the Patriarch of Serbia and peace and prosperity to the Serbian society.

Bishop Antonije of Moravici in his speech expressed cordial gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill for having given his blessing upon the festive celebrations and thanked Metropolitan Athanasios and Archbishop Mark, as well as diplomats, representatives of the Churches of Bulgaria and the Czech Lands and all the guests and parishioners.
