DECR vice-chairman Archpriest Nikolay Balashov meets with head of Montenegro’s Socialist People’s Party leader Srdjan Milic

On July 12, 2011, Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, vice-chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations, met with the leader of the Socialist People’s Party in Montenegro, Mr. Srdjan Milic, at the DECR.

In the course of a warm talk held in an atmosphere of mutual understanding, they discussed the development of religious and cultural relations between the people of Russia and Montenegro and the church-state and church-society cooperation in the countries under the canonical jurisdiction of the Patriarchates of Moscow and Serbia. Both sides noted that the Metropolia of Montenegro and Primorje headed by Metropolitan Amfilohije, is the only canonically lawful structure of the Orthodox Church in Montenegro, and groundless attack on it by some politicians only damage both the international reputation of the Montenegro state and the good feelings towards the people of Montenegro which are so strong in Russia.

They also discussed questions connected with the forthcoming visit of Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s department for external church relations.
