According to tradition, on Victory Day, Archbishop Simon of Brussels and Belgium lays memorial wreaths at the memorial to Soviet soldiers, located at the Brussels cemetery at Evere.
The solemn memorial ceremony on May 9 is attended by employees of many diplomatic missions accredited in the Kingdom of Belgium.
More than thirty years ago, the administrator of the Diocese of Brussels and Belgium became a co-founder of this tradition. Taking part in the first wreath-laying ceremony were only Bishop Simon on behalf of the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USSR to Belgium on behalf of the state, the diocesan website reports.
This year, the archpastor was accompanied by Rev. Adrian Alaoui, rector of the church of the Intercession in Brussels; Rev. Alexander Tsabiev, cleric of the Holy Trinity church in the Belgian capital, and archpriest Pavel Nedosekin, secretary of the diocese.
Afterwards, a festive reception was given at the Russian Embassy in Brussels.
