Commemoration Day of St. John of Shanghai Celebrated in Moscow

On 2^nd July 2026, the commemoration day of St. John the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, and the 60^th anniversary of his blessed repose were celebrated at the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine In-the-Fields in Moscow. Officiating at the Divine Liturgy was Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

Among His Eminence’s concelebrants were: Archimandrite Seraphim (Shemyatovsky), Representative of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne; Archpriest Daniel Andrejuk, Representative of the Orthodox Church in America to the Moscow Patriarchal Throne and Rector of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine In-the-Fields; Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR Deputy Chairman, Rector of the Church of the Renewal of the Temple of the Resurrection of Christ in Danilovskaya Sloboda in Moscow; Archpriest Christopher Hill and Priest Alexy Maximov, clerics of the Church of St. Catherine; Priest Mikhail Goroyan; Priest Miron Kanteladze, cleric of the Moscow Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer in Gruziny; Priest Nikolay Vasin, Secretary to the DECR Chairman; Priest Dionisy Trofimov, cleric of the Church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in Luberetskoye Pole in Moscow; Priest Alexander Ivanov, cleric of the Moscow Church of the Holy Hieromartyr Vladimir the Metropolitan of Kiev in Sviblovo; Deacon Yevgeny Kuznetsov, cleric of the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist on Presnya in Moscow; and Deacon Sergiy Arkhutich, cleric of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer in Koptevo, Moscow.

The liturgical hymns were performed by a choir of the Church of St. Catherine conducted by Vera Andrejuk.

Father Dionisy Trofimov delivered a sermon after the Communion Verse.

After the Prayer Behind the Ambo, the clergy offered prayers of praise to St. John of Shanghai.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Anthony conveyed to the clergy and parishioners of the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine blessings from His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’, and delivered a homily.

On behalf of the clergy, workers and parishioners of the Church of St. Catherine, Archpriest Daniel Andrejuk expressed filial gratitude to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill and His Eminence Metropolitan Anthony for their love and care for the Church of St. Catherine In-the-Fields and the Moscow Representation of the Orthodox Church in America.

Father Daniel also cordially thanked Metropolitan Anthony for leading the liturgical celebrations and presented to him a memorable gift – a portrait of St. John of Shanghai.
