Members of the Synod of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia consider the actions of the Ukrainian authorities against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church unacceptable
DECR Communication Service, 22.11.2023.
During a meeting held on the 9th of November 2023 in Prešov, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia expressed its position on the actions of the current Ukrainian authorities against the clergy and the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
In particular, members of the Synod discussed the letters of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia and Metropolitan Anthony of Borispol and Brovary devoted to this topic.
"With this in mind, members of the Holy Synod expressed solidarity with the persecuted and the suffering," reads a statement on the official website of the Orthodox Church in the Czech Lands and Slovakia. The hierarchs recalled that "in a free and democratic society, violations of fundamental human and civil rights and restrictions on freedom of religion are unacceptable. Any form of intimidation, coercion and persecution is inappropriate, disproportionate and unacceptable."
