Second volume of Archbishop Hilarion’s Orthodoxy comes out in the Sretensky Monastery Publishers
The second volume of Archbishop Hilarion of Volokolamsk’s comprehensive work entitled Orthodoxy has come out. It is a detailed and systematic exposition of the history, canon order, doctrine, moral and social teaching, liturgy and spiritual life of the Orthodox Church.
His Eminence Hilarion’s basic goal was to present the Orthodox Christianity as an integral theological, liturgical and ideological system. The edition covers a wide rage of themes concerning the past and present of the Orthodox Church. It contains numerous quotations from Church Fathers, liturgical and historical manuscripts and works of contemporary theologians.
‘At the same time, the book does not claim to be an exhaustive treatment of the themes it deals with. It is not an encyclopedia or a reference book. It is rather an attempt to reflect on Orthodoxy in its diversity through the prism of the author’s personal perception’, states the preface to the first volume, which was published in 2008. A French version of this work was recently presented in Paris.
The book is intended for those who are already familiar with the rudiments of Orthodoxy and wish to deepen and systematize their knowledge.
