The Kursk-Roots Icon of Our Lady the Sign was met at the Cathedral of the Resurrection under construction by Metropolitan Vladimir of Kiev and All Ukraine and the first Hierarch of the Russian Church Outside Russia, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York.
The Icon of the Mother of God has been brought to the Ukrainian capital from Munich by the Russian Church Outside Russia’s delegation led by the First Hierarch of this Church, Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, and a delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the official website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church has reported.
In a procession with the cross, the shrine was taken to the square in front of the wooden church of All Saints, where the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church said a thanksgiving.
Before the service, Metropolitan Vladimir addressed those who assembled in the square, saying in particular, ‘The Mother of God has come today to this place blessed for the construction of a cathedral dedicated to the Resurrection of her beloved Son. We believe that the Mother of God is always with us; and today in her miracle-working image, She blesses us all, bowing before her Son and praying for our salvation. May the charity of the Most Holy Virgin Mary help us all through her incessant prayer and intercession; may the Lord, through her intercession, bless our churches, our Holy Church, our God-saved country and all its people’.
After the thanksgiving, the Icon of the Mother of God was taken to the church of All Saints to stay there till May 22.
