DECR Communication service, 05.05.2026.
On May 2, 2026, in the house church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant under construction in Turkey’s Mersin Province, a festive Divine Liturgy was celebrated, timed to the fifth anniversary since the beginning of regular services.
The Liturgy was presided over by Priest Georgy Sergeev, responsible for organizing pastoral care for the flock of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Republic of Turkey, concelebrating with Hieromonk Pallady (Bystrov), who ministers to the community in Akkuyu, as well as Archpriest Maxim Prikhodko and Priest Dimitry Bogatyr, who minister to the faithful in Antalya and Alanya.
Also participating in the service was a representative of the Antiochian Patriarchate, Archpriest Spiridon Koshkun, rector of the Church of the Holy Archangels Gabriel and Michael in Mersin, and members of the parish council of the community.
After the conclusion of the Liturgy, Priest Georgy Sergeev addressed the faithful with a greeting, in which he, in particular, thanked the management of the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant for the opportunity to celebrate services. Special words of gratitude were addressed to N.D. Kostyuchkov, head of JSC “NEPT,” through whose efforts the house church was built and adorned.
Priest Georgy presented to the church an icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, painted by Svetlana Derin, a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Constantine and Helen in Istanbul.
A representative of the Antiochian Patriarchate, Archpriest Spiridon, also addressed the faithful with congratulations, conveying greetings from Patriarch John of Antioch and All the East and Bishop Paul of Tartus, and presenting commemorative gifts to the parish.
The celebrations concluded with a festive concert prepared through the efforts of Hieromonk Pallady and members of the parish choir, reports the official Telegram channel of the communities of the Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Republic of Turkey.
