DECR chairman meets with German public figure Peter Gauleiter

On 7th September 2026 at the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate a meeting was held between the chairman of the DECR the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony and the well-known German lawyer Doctor Peter Gauweiler.
At various times over the years Peter Gauweileter has been a member of the government of Bavaria, a deputy of the Bavarian Landtag and the Bundestag of the German Federal Republic, as well as deputy chairman of the Christian Social Union political party.
Metropolitan Anthony greeted the guest within the walls of the Synodal institution which answers for the external affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The head of the DECR, in particular, informed his guest on the ministry of the Russian Orthodox Church in Germany.
In turn, Peter Gauweiler emphasized his unchanging determination to make his contribution to the building up of good relations between Germany and Russia and noted the importance of inter-Christian dialogue.
Also taking part in the meeting was the DECR deputy chairman archpriest Igor Vyzhanov.
