Head of the DECR meets with the General Secretary of the World Council of Churches in Geneva

On the 15th of September 2026, in Geneva, Switzerland, a meeting took place between Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, and Dr Jerry Pillay, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches.

The meeting was also attended by Archpriest Mikhail Gundyaev, Representative of the Russian Orthodox Church to the WCC; Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, Moderator of the WCC Central Committee (online); Peter Prove, Director of the WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs; Archpriest Vasile-Octavian Mihoc, Executive Secretary for the WCC programmes “Ecumenical Relations” and “Faith and Order”; and Priest Alexander Yershov, Assistant to the DECR Chairman.

During the lengthy meeting, the participants discussed a wide range of issues on the WCC agenda.
