Church of St. Procopius of Ustyug in German town of Bischofsheim in der Rhön celebrates 25th anniversary of its consecration

On 26^th July 2026, 8^th Sunday after Pentecost, commemoration day of the Holy Fathers of the First Six Ecumenical Councils, Archbishop Tikhon of Ruza, Administrator of the Diocese of Berlin and Germany, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Procopius of Ustyug in the town of Bischofsheim in der Rhön. The divine service was the central part of the celebrations that marked the 25^th anniversary of the church’s consecration.

During the evening service the day before, Archbishop Tikhon had prayed in the altar of the Church of St. Nectarios of Aegina. After the service, he celebrated a memorial litiya at the burial place of Hegumen Fjodor (Hölldobler), late rector of the Church of St. Nectarios of Aegina and St. Procopius of Ustyug in Bischofsheim in der Rhön, who had passed to the Lord in 2020 at the age of 76.

The divine services were celebrated in the German and Church Slavonic languages.

As the diocesan website reports, among the archpastor’s concelebrants were Priest Alexandr Schefer, Rector of the church, and Priest Alexei Lemmer (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia), as well as Deacons Michael Koch and Konstantin Lotichius. During the Litany of Fervent Supplication, the prayer for peace was read. During the Communion verse, Archbishop Tikhon delivered a sermon on the Sunday Gospel reading.

After the Divine Liturgy, prayers of praise were offered to St. Procopius of Ustyug.

Archbishop Tikhon greeted Mr Georg Seiffert, Mayor of Bischofsheim in der Rhön, and other representatives of the town administration present at the celebrations, as well as numerous pilgrims from various German cities and towns.

Priest Alexandr Schefer thanked the archpastor for his visit and joint prayer.

The Liturgy was followed by a festive repast and an organ concert in the parish house.
