Metropolitan Mark leads patronal celebrations at St. Mary Magdalene Cathedral in Madrid

On 26th April 2026, Third Sunday after Pascha, of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene, Equal-to-the-Apostles, in Madrid, marking the patronal feast of the church.
Officiating at the divine service was Metropolitan Mark of Korsun and Western Europe, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, administrator of the Diocese of Spain and Portugal.
Among his concelebrants were Bishop Peter of Kaffa, vicar of the Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe; Archimandrite Serafim (Pavlov), dean of the Spanish parishes; Priest Andrei Borisyuk, sacristan of St. Mary Magdalene Cathedral; Deacon Gleb Zaika, secretary of the Diocesan Administration; as well as local clerics and ordained guests.
During the Little Entrance, by the decree of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and upon the recommendation of Metropolitan Mark of Korsun and Western Europe, Priest Andrei Borisyuk was awarded the right to wear a pectoral cross with decorations; Archpriest Dmitry Osipenko, rector of the Holy Ascension Church in Marbella, the right to celebrate the Divine Liturgy with the Royal Doors open until the Cherubic Hymn; and Priest Adam Kondratyuk, rector of St. Seraphim Parish in Benidorm, the right to wear the palitsa.
Metropolitan Mark conferred on Priest Mikhail Hellendbrand, a cleric of St. Mary Magdalene Cathedral, the right to wear a kamelaukion and a pectoral cross.
After the service, prayers of praise were offered to St. Mary Magdalene before her icon, followed by a homily delivered by Metropolitan Mark.
Father Andrei Borisyuk thanked the Patriarchal Exarch for his archpastoral attention to the cathedral in Madrid and for leading the patronal celebrations.
In accordance with a long-established tradition marking the commemoration day of the Holy Myrrh-Bearing Women, flowers were presented to female parishioners.
Accompanied by Bishop Peter and the clergy, Metropolitan Mark attended an Easter concert of the children’s Sunday school. The administrator of the Diocese of Spain and Portugal also had a meeting with the clerics and workers of St. Mary Magdalene Cathedral, website of the diocese reports.
