Clergymen of Russian Ecclesiastical Mission celebrate memorial service on the 130th anniversary of the demise of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin)

April 6th, 2024, marked the 130th anniversary of the demise of Archimandrite Antonin (Kapustin), a prominent figure of the Russian Orthodox Church of the 19th century. The clergy of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission celebrated a memorial service at his grave in the Convent of the Ascension on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
Archimandrite Antonin was the head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem from 1865 until his death in 1894. While in the Holy Land, he built abodes, churches and metochions of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission and of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, including the church of the Ascension and Convent on the Mount of Olives, the church of Mary Magdalene in the Garden of Gethsemane, the Holy Trinity Monastery in Hebron, the Gorny Convent, the metochion of Righteous Tabitha in Jaffa, and many other buildings of the Mission.
Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, officiated at the memorial service. Concelebrating were hegumen Nikon (Golovko), deputy head of the Mission, and hieromonk Tikhon (Proyaev) and deacon Makariy Petukhov, clerics of the Mission.
Among those praying at the memorial service were archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), head of the ROCOR Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem; hegumeness Yekaterina (Chernysheva), the abbess of the Gorny convent in Ein Karem, staff of the Mission, and sisters of the Gorny convent.
At the end of the memorial service, Memory Eternal was proclaimed to the ever-memorable archimandrite Antonin and to his blessedly deceased parents, Rev. Ioann and Maria.
