Pilgrims from Ukrainian Orthodox Church meet with a hierarch of the Church of Cyprus
On 10th May 2021, the faithful from the Diocese of Poltava, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, currently on a trip to the Island of Cyprus, met with Bishop Grigorios of Mesaoria, the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, the Union of Orthodox Journalists reports quoting diocesan Facebook page.
A trip to the holy sites of Cyprus has been arranged by the Pilgrimage Centre at the Department for External Church Relations of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Mr. Vladimir Sakhno, head of the Pilgrimage Centre of the Diocese of Poltava was a member of the group.
During their pilgrimage the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church visited the major holy sites of Cyprus – the Macheras and Kykkos monasteries, venerated a particle of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord in the Omodos monastery and visited the Church of St. Lazarus in Larnaka.
Issues pertaining to the pilgrimage of the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to Cyprus were discussed during the meeting with Bishop Grigorios of Mesaoria, director of the Office for inter-church relations and the Office of the pilgrimage tours of the Church of Cyprus.
The meeting concluded, Bishop Grigorios presented souvenirs to the guests and assured them in his prayers for peace in Ukraine and in the Church.
That same day a group of the Ukrainian pilgrims met with Metropolitan Timotheos of Bostra, Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Nicosia. He welcomed the pilgrims, shared with them reminiscences of his visit to Ukraine, told them about the Exarchate’s history and the situation of Orthodox Christians living in Cyprus.
