Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk meets with Primate of Malankara Church

On 27^th March 2026, at the residence of the Malankara Catholicoi in Kottayam, India, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, met with His Holiness Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III, Primate of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

Metropolitan Anthony conveyed to the Primate of the Malankara Church greetings from His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ and thanked him for the invitation to attend the rite of the Holy Chrism consecration. His Holiness Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III conveyed his warmest wishes to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, expressing gratitude to His Holiness for delegating a high representative of the Moscow Patriarchate to the celebrations of church-wide importance for the Indian Christians. His Holiness Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Mathews III and the DECR chairman discussed a wide range of topics pertaining to cooperation between the two Churches, and exchanged gifts.

Taking part in the meeting were also Metropolitan Abraham Mar Stephanos of the Diocese of the UK, Europe and Africa of the Malankara Church; Priest Ashwin Fernandis, executive director of the Department of Ecumenical Relations of the Malankara Church; Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), DECR secretary for inter-Christian relations; and Priest Nikolai Vasin, secretary to the DECR chairman.
