DECR Communication Service, 15.08.2022.
On August 14, at the invitation of Metropolitan Anthony of Zahle and Baalbek and Representative of the Orthodox Church of Antioch to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Metropolitan Niphon of Philippopolis, parishioners of the Beirut Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church made a pilgrimage to the city of Zahle in Lebanon and attended the Sunday Liturgy at the Cathedral of St. Nicholas the Wonder-Worker.
The divine service was celebrated by Metropolitan Anthony and Metropolitan Niphon with the assistance of the diocesan clergy.
Among the worshippers was Archimandrite Philipp (Vasiltsev), rector of the Beirut Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The service was celebrated in Arabic and Church Slavonic. The sermon on the Sunday Gospel Reading was delivered by Metropolitan Anthony, reports the Metochion’s website.
After the Dismissal, Archimandrite Philipp greeted Metropolitan Anthony and Metropolitan Niphon noting that pilgrimages to Zahle became traditional and long awaited by the community of the Beirut Metochion. He also stressed the uniqueness of the service carried out by Metropolitan Niphon, a renowned native of Zahle, who has represented the Patriarch of Antioch and All the East to the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia for as many as 46 years.
Then ‘Many Years’ was sung to the Primates of the Church of Antioch and the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as to Metropolitans Anthony and Niphon.
After the Liturgy, a fraternal tea party took place at the Throne Hall of the Metropolis of Zahle and Baalbek.
