Meeting of the Commission on the status of the Diocese of Vilnius and Lithuiania

On July 6, 2022, the first meeting of the Commission on the status of the Diocese of Vilnius and Lithuania took place at the Synodal and Patriarchal residence in St. Daniel’s stauropegic monastery under the chairmanship of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
Taking part in the work of the Commission, which was established by decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on May 27, 2022 (Minutes No.36), were Metropolitan Pavel of Krutitsy and Kolomna, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s office for the affairs of dioceses in the neighboring foreign countries; Metropolitan Dionisy of Voskresensk, chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate; Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR); Archpriest Nikolai Balashov, DECR deputy chairman; and Archpriest Vladislav Tsypin, professor of the Moscow Theological Academy.
The Commission set about studying the materials on the present-day developments in the Diocese of Vilnius and proposed future lines of work, including collection of the necessary additional information. Hope was expressed that the rights of the Orthodox Christian believers living in the country would be strictly observed in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania.
The Commission will continue its work and submit its results to the Holy Synod for consideration.
