A Russian version of the book by a hierarch of the Church of Cyprus on the Ukrainian church issue has come out

The book entitled “Today’s Ukrainian Issue and Its Solution According to Divine and Holy Canons” devoted to the church schism in Ukraine has come out. Its author is Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kykkos and Tillyria, one of the most merited and authoritative hierarchs of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, abbot of the ancient and glorious Kykkos Monastery honoured not only in Cyprus but also throughout the Orthodox world.
In his work, the author clarifies for readers the basis aspects of the Ukrainian issue analysing it from the perspective of canons and the Tradition of the Orthodox Church and answers the question of whether the Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople was right or wrong in granting “autocephaly” to a group of Ukrainian schismatics.
Metropolitan Nikiforos also shares with readers his reflections on the duty of an archpastor before his flock and the Church, confesses his fidelity to Holy Orthodoxy, expresses concern for its life and, in the Christian spirit of meekness, refutes the mistakes of his opponents and makes his case for the defending his own beliefs.
In the preface to the book, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, head of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, stresses the importance of “making the word of the Metropolitan of Kykkos also heard in the Russian Orthodox Church” and expressed a hope that the book, in its Russian version prepared and commented by the DECR staff members, will be taken with attention and warmth also by our faithful “as an authentic voice of archpastoral conscience, as an expression of compassion and support for much-suffering Orthodoxy of Ukraine, as a precious contribution to the building of peace and unity of world Orthodoxy”.
The translation of the book from Greek was made by Deacon Feodor Shulga, a DECR staff member.
The scientific editors of the book are Archpriest Nikolay Balashov, DECR vice-chairman, and Archpriest Igor Yakimchuk, DECR secretary for inter-Orthodox relations.
The edition, published by the Poznanie Publishers in cooperation with the Foundation for Support of Christian Culture and Heritage, is the first in a series of ten books on the theme of the Ukrainian schism. Among the authors of the next publications are Metropolitan Daniel of Vidin (Bulgarian Orthodox Church), Metropolitan Seraphim of Pireiea (Greek Orthodox Church) and others. All these works are devoted to various aspects of the Ukrainian church problem and aimed to help readers to develop their own idea of its causes and possible consequences.
