Liturgy celebrated on the Feast of St. Nicholas the Wonderworkers in Turkish city of Demre
During the Prayer of Fervent Supplication, petitions were lifted up for the unity of the Orthodox Church and her protection against divisions and schisms. A prayer was read for peace in Ukraine. The congregation also prayed for the cessation of destructive fires in Turkey, the end of the coronavirus pandemic and for good neighborly relations among countries and peoples.
Among the worshippers were pilgrims from the Society of Orthodox Russian-speaking Faithful from Antalya, Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, who were on holidays in the region. Over one hundred people partook of the Holy Gifts of Christ.
During the Dismissal, prayers were sung with the acathistus to St. Nichols and the office of the blessing of water was conducted.
After the liturgy, Father George addressed the congregation expressing gratitude to the Turkish authorities, the management of the Demre national part and the Russian Art and Culture Society in Antalya for their help in organizing the divine service.
Father George together with the chairman of the Russian Art and Culture Society met with Mr. Nilufer Sezgin, director of the Demre National Park. The priest thanked the management of the museum for their assistance in organizing the divine service and presented him with a token of the meeting.
