Commemoration day of St Stephen the King and Enlightener of Hungary celebrated in Budapest

On 20th August, commemoration day of St Stephen (István), first Christian King and Enlightener of Hungary, public holiday in Hungary, Metropolitan Nestor of Korsun and Western Europe, Patriarchal Exarch of Western Europe, temporary administrator of the Diocese of Budapest and Hungary, officiated at the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Dormition Cathedral in Budapest.
Concelebrating with the archpastor were rectors and clerics of many diocesan churches and parishes – the Dormition Cathedral in Budapest, the Church of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victory-Bearer in Szeged, the Church of St. Sergius of Radonezh in Budapest, the Church of the “Life-Giving Spring” Icon of the Mother of God in Hévíz, the Holy Trinity Parish in Budapest, the Church of the Holy Trinity in Debrecen, and the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Tokaj.
Liturgical chants were performed by the Dormition Cathedral choir. The divine service was celebrated in the Hungarian and Church Slavonic languages, the diocesan website reports.
After the Liturgy, Metropolitan Nestor delivered a homily, dwelling on the crucial role of King Stephen who led his people to the Holy Baptism in the year 1000.
Archpriest Stephen Magyar, senior priest of the Dormition Cathedral in Budapest, greeted Metropolitan Nestor on behalf of the diocesan clergy and presented to the archpastor an icon of St Stephen.
