The Russian-speaking community of the capital of Georgia honoured the memory of their famous compatriots
DECR Communication Service, 11.02.2024.
On the 8th of February 2024, the 190th anniversary of the birth of the Russian scientist-chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, a memorial service was held in Tbilisi at his monument, the only one in Georgia. In a word at the end of the service it was noted that the scientist's legacy is a common heritage, so one cannot speak of "Russian" or "Georgian" science, but of a common treasury of knowledge belonging to all mankind.
On the 10th of February, a memorial service for the great poet was held at the monument to Alexander Pushkin, whose death anniversary falls on that day. Boris Pasternak, whose birthday is celebrated on that day, was also commemorated. Poems by the two poets in Russian and Georgian were recited at the monument.
The cycle of memorial services ended on the 11th of February at the grave of the Russian playwright and diplomat Alexander Griboyedov, who died defending the Russian Embassy in Tehran 195 years ago. At the end of the memorial service, words of gratitude were spoken to the organisers and participants who came to honor the memory of outstanding figures of science and culture.
The services were celebrated by Archpriest Vladimir Alexandrov, a cleric of the Russian Orthodox Church, who was sent to Georgia by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Moscow Patriarchate to minister to the Russian-speaking believers (Journal No. 40 of the Holy Synod meeting of 14 May 2018).
