Patriarchal Exarch participated in the conference timed to 800th anniversary since the birth of St. Alexander Nevsky
On September 12, 2021, the opening of the 13th
International Ambrosian Readings took place at the Ambrosian Library in Milan. This forum is annually organized by the Parish of St. Ambrose; this year it has been held in the context of the 800th anniversary since the birth of the holy and right-believing Prince Alexander Nevsky.
Opening the conference, Patriarchal Exarch for Western Europe, Metropolitan Anthony of Chersonesus and Western Europe, extended welcoming greetings to the participants. Among other things, he noted that for a man in power, especially a statesman, it was no easy task in life to combine the adherence to lofty Christian ideals with the urgent necessity of taking strict, and sometimes harsh, principled decisions affecting other people. The hierarch underlined that St. Alexander Nevsky had come down into Russia’s national history as an outstanding political leader and a talented military commander, having set a glorious example of personal holiness.
Metropolitan Anthony warmly thanked the organizers and participants of the forum and wished them fruitful work in the future. After that the guests of the conference presented their reports.
Metropolitan Avgustin of Belaya Tserkov and Boguslav addressed the conference with a report on “Bearing One’s Cross as an Integral Part of Christian Spiritual Life.”
Hieromonk Amvrosy (Matsegora), secretary of the Administration of the Moscow Patriarchate’s parishes in Italy, devoted his report to the problems of St. Alexander Nevsky’s relationship with the Roman Catholic Church of his time.
In the course of the conference, reports were also delivered by historian Mikhail G. Talalay of the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences; by rector of the Parish of St. Ambrose in Milan, archimandrite Amvrosy (Makar); and by Director of Department for Slavistic of Accademia Ambrosiana, Rev. Professor Francesco Braschi, and others.
That same evening, the choir of the Parish of St. Ambrose gave a concert to the participants in the forum.
