Office for the Dead was said at Lebanese Jal el Dib for victims of tragedy in Akkar
On August 17, 2021, the Office for the Dead was said in the church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God in Jal el Dib, Lebanon, for the victims of the tragedy in Akkar. The service was conducted by the rector of the Beirut Representation of the Russian Orthodox Church, Archimandrite Philipp (Vasiltsev).
Earlier on August 15, a fuel tank exploded in the Akkar region in north Lebanon. According to the latest information, the tragic accident took the toll of 30 lives including that of three servicemen; four more people are missing. Among of 79 injured people the most of them suffered from burns of various degrees.
His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia expressed condolences to His Beatitude John X, Patriarch of Great Antioch and All the East over the loss of people caused by this tragedy.
‘Sharing with Your Beatitude and the Lebanese people the grief over the misfortune that befell the country, I lift up prayers to the Merciful Creator for the repose of the souls of the victims and the recovery of the injured and for granting fortitude to their relatives and friends so that they may cope with the trials that have befallen them’, reads the message of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church.
