Bulgarian Patriarch visits Russian church in Gethsemane

On 26^th September 2026, His Holiness Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria, accompanied by Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop and Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, visited the Convent of St. Mary Magdalene in Gethsemane, which is under the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR). The official Bulgarian delegation was welcomed by Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Head of the ROCOR Russian Ecclesiastical Mission. Among those present was also Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev), Head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, the Mission’s website reports.

His Holiness was told about the history of St. Mary Magdalene Church, after which he venerated its shrines and commemorated the Holy Venerable Martyrs Elizabeth and Barbara, whose relics rest in the church.

The Primate of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church addressed those present with a pastoral exhortation and thanked Archimandrite Roman for the warm welcome. After that, Patriarch Daniil continued his pilgrimage to the holy sites of the Church of Jerusalem.
