Divine Liturgy celebrated in Ephesus, site of the Third Ecumenical Council

On the 22nd of September 2026, the feast day of the Righteous Forebears of God Joachim and Anna and the commemoration of the Third Ecumenical Council (431), Priest Georgy Sergeev, responsible for organising pastoral care for faithful of the Moscow Patriarchate in the Republic of Türkiye, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos in Ephesus, where the Council was held.

The service was attended by pilgrims who had arrived from various cities in Türkiye and Russia. Most of them received Holy Communion.

Following the Liturgy, Father Georgy addressed the faithful, explaining the Gospel reading of the day and speaking about the Third Ecumenical Council.

The priest expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Türkiye for granting permission to celebrate the service at the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos, located in the museum-city of Ephesus. He also expressed his gratitude to A. V. Ponomaryov, Chairman of the Society for the Study of the Russian Language and Culture in Izmir, who assisted in organising the pilgrimage.
