Representatives of Orthodox Parishes from Indonesia and Malaysia Make a Pilgrimage to Russia

From July 7 to 24, 2026, a delegation of faithful from Orthodox parishes of the Patriarchal Exarchate of South-East Asia in the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia made a pilgrimage to Russia. The participants had the opportunity to become acquainted with the rich spiritual and historical heritage of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The delegation consisted of 24 representatives of Orthodox communities in Indonesia and Malaysia, including clergy of the Diocese of Singapore of the Patriarchal Exarchate of South-East Asia.
During their stay in Russia, the pilgrims visited a number of major spiritual centers, the Exarchate’s website reports. These included the historic churches of Kolomna, the shrines of the Moscow Kremlin, the Donskoy, Pokrovsky, and Danilov monasteries, the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo, and the Patriarchal Metochion of the Church of the Life-Giving Trinity in Ostankino, Moscow. The pilgrimage program also included visits to the Monastery of Optina Pustyn, the Kazan Amvrosiev Convent in Shamordino, the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ (the Main Cathedral of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation) and the “1418 Steps to Victory” Museum, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Sofrino Church Art and Production Enterprise, and the Holy Trinity St. Seraphim-Diveyevo Convent.
On July 18, the pilgrims arrived at the Holy Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius to participate in the divine services marking the Feast of the Uncovering of the Honorable Relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh. Following the Divine Liturgy, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ met with the members of the delegation, led by Metropolitan Sergius of Singapore and South-East Asia, Patriarchal Exarch of South-East Asia, in the Patriarchal Chambers of the Lavra.
On July 19, the faithful from Indonesia and Malaysia took part in the celebrations marking the 755th anniversary of the Diocese of Tver. On July 20 and 21, they visited St. Petersburg and joined the festivities in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and on July 22 they became acquainted with the historic shrines of the city of Uglich.
The pilgrimage program concluded on July 24 with the delegation’s return to Jakarta.
