Representative of the DECR took part in events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China

On June 29–30, events dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China were held in Moscow. The treaty was signed in the Kremlin on July 16, 2001, by President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin and Chairman of the People’s Republic of China Jiang Zemin. This document laid the foundation for interaction between the two countries in various spheres.
On June 29, a round table titled “Stages of the Great Path: on the 25th Anniversary of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China” was held in the Meeting Hall of the Society of Russian-Chinese Friendship.
Among those who spoke at the round table were Director of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy Chairman of the Society of Russian-Chinese Friendship K.V. Babaev, Deputy Director of the First Department of Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia V.V. Fadeev, Deputy Chairman of the Society of Russian-Chinese Friendship, Head of the Department of Diplomacy at MGIMO of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador K.M. Barsky, and Chairman of the Council of Young Scholars of the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences L.I. Semina.
On June 30, a solemn evening was held at the Moscow State Pedagogical University. The organizers were the Society of Russian-Chinese Friendship jointly with the Institute of China and Contemporary Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the support of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Russian Federation.
At the solemn evening, speeches were delivered by Deputy Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation I.I. Melnikov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Russian Federation Zhang Hanhui, and Rector of the Moscow State Pedagogical University A.V. Lubkov.
After the solemn part, a festive concert was held.
By the blessing of the Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, an employee of the DECR Secretariat for the Affairs of the Far Abroad, Hieromonk Kirill (Peregudin), took part in the solemn events.
