Celebrations Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the German Diocese Took Place

During the days of the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, celebrations dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the German Diocese were held.
On May 1, 2026, Friday of the 3rd week after Pascha, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of the New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia and St. Nicholas in Munich.
Concelebrating with His Eminence were all the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, as well as Metropolitan Peter of Prespa and Pelagonia (Macedonian Orthodox Church), Archbishop Tikhon of Ruza, administrator of the Berlin-German Diocese, Archimandrite Roman (Krasovsky), head of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission within the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, Archpriest Nikolai Artemov, rector of the cathedral, about 100 clerics of the German Diocese, and invited clergy.
During the service, a memorial litany was proclaimed for all departed hierarchs, priests, and workers of the German Diocese.
At the Little Entrance, in recognition of 45 years of service for the benefit of the Holy Church and the German Diocese, Archpriest Nikolai Artemov was awarded the right to wear a second pectoral cross. Also, for many years of service to the Holy Church, Archpriest Iosif Vavnyuk and Archpriest Sergiy Manoshkin were awarded the right to wear the mitre.
After the Liturgy, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia congratulated Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany, Bishop Job of Stuttgart, and all those laboring for the benefit of the German Diocese on the commemorative date, and then addressed the participants in the celebrations with a speech. Metropolitan Nicholas expressed special gratitude to Metropolitan Mark for his archpastoral labors.
Then Metropolitan Mark addressed the faithful. He thanked the hierarchs for their participation in the celebrations and also noted the significance of holding the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia in the German Diocese.
Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America presented Metropolitan Mark with an icon of the righteous Olga of Alaska containing a particle of her holy relics.
In recognition of her contribution to the organization and holding of the Bishops’ Council on the territory of the German Diocese, Abbess Maria (Sidiropoulou), abbess of the Convent of the Holy Martyr Elizabeth in Buchendorf (Germany), was awarded the Order of the Kursk Root Icon.
For support of the German Diocese and generous assistance provided to the Bishops’ Council, Protodeacon Vadim Novinsky was awarded the Synodal Order of the Sign of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, 2nd class, reports the website of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
