The Russian Ambassador Took Part in Commemorative Events Marking the Anniversary of NATO Airstrikes on Yugoslavia

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Montenegro A.P. Lukashik took part in events held in the village of Murino in memory of its residents who died as a result of NATO air bombings on April 30, 1999. This is reported by the website of the Russian Embassy in Montenegro.
The head of the Russian diplomatic mission attended a church service in the Church of St. Petka (Paraskeva), which was led by Metropolitan Methodius of Budimlja and Nikšić.
A wreath-laying ceremony was also held at the monument to the victims of the NATO air attack. Flowers were brought to the memorial by relatives of the victims, Speaker of the country’s Skupština (Parliament) A. Mandić, heads of a number of municipalities, representatives of the diplomatic corps, party associations and public organizations, and civil activists.

On April 30, 1999, aircraft of the North Atlantic Alliance carried out an airstrike on the bridge over the Lim River in the center of Murino, where there were no military facilities. The air raid became one of the bloodiest events on the territory of Montenegro during NATO’s war against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. As a result of the tragedy, six people were killed, including three children.
