Representatives of the Malankara Church Attended the Celebrations on the Occasion of the Commemoration Day of Holy Blessed Matrona of Moscow

On May 2, at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’, a delegation of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church attended the celebrations on the occasion of the repose and canonization of holy blessed Matrona of Moscow at the Pokrovsky Stavropegial Convent. The Divine Liturgy was presided over by Metropolitan Theognost of Kashira, Chairman of the Synodal Department for Monasteries and Monasticism.

The delegation included Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Coorilos of Bombay; Metropolitan Yuhanon Mar Policarpos of Angamaly; and Priest Ashwin Fernandes, Executive Director of the Department of External Church Relations of the Malankara Church. The guests were accompanied by Hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), Secretary of the Department for External Church Relations for Inter-Christian Relations, and Hieromonk Mark (Akhmatkhanov), a staff member of the DECR.

At the conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Theognost warmly welcomed the delegation of the Malankara Church on behalf of His Holiness the Patriarch. In turn, Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Coorilos expressed words of gratitude to the Primate of the Russian Church for the invitation to the aforementioned celebrations and addressed greetings to Metropolitan Theognost and the abbess of the Pokrovsky Convent, Abbess Theophania (Miskina), emphasizing the special patronage of blessed Matrona of Moscow for many Christians of distant India.
