Rector of Russian Church’s Metochion in Sofia takes part in Paschal Vespers at St. Nedelya Cathedral

On 12th April 2026, Feast of the Glorious Resurrection of Christ, the Paschal Vespers was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Holy Great Martyr Nedelya (Kyriake) in Sofia, Bulgaria. This service is called “Second Resurrection” in the Bulgarian Orthodox Church because during it, the Gospel glad tidings of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ is heard for the second time after midnight.
Officiating at the Paschal Vespers was His Holiness Patriarch Daniil of Bulgaria. Among his concelebrants were: Bishop Gerasim of Melnik, Chief Secretary of the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church; Bishop Ioan of Branitsa, First Vicar of the Metropolitan of Sofia; Archpriest Vladimir Tyshchuk, Representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ to the Bulgarian Patriarch and Rector of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Metochion in Sofia; Iconom Stavrofor Neluțu Oprea, Representative of the Romanian Orthodox Church in Bulgaria; and the Sofia clergy.
The Great Prokeimenon, “Who is so great a God as our God? Thou art the God that doest wonders” (Ps 77:13-14), was followed by the Gospel reading (Jn 20:19-29) in various languages. Archpriest Vladimir Tyshchuk read it in Russian, Metochion’s website reports.
After the Gospel reading, His Holiness Patriarch Daniil delivered a homily and extended Easter greetings to all those present.
