DECR Communication Service, 08.03.2025.
On March 7, a delegation of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church arrived in Russia from India with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' to participate in the celebrations marking the day of the uncovering of the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow. Over the last few years, her veneration by Indian Christians has been growing, and such visits have become traditional.
The delegation includes Metropolitan Youhanon Mar Demetrios of the Delhi diocese, president of the Department of Ecumenical Relations of the Malankara Church; Metropolitan Geevarghese Mar Yulios of the Kunnamkulam diocese; and Priest Ashwin Fernandis, executive director of the Department of Ecumenical Relations of the Malankara Church. The guests are accompanied by hieromonk Stefan (Igumnov), secretary for Inter-Christian relations of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations (DECR), and hieromonk Mark (Akhmatkhanov), a DECR staff member.
Upon the delegation's arrival in the Pokrovsky Stavropegic Convent, the guests were greeted by hegumeness Feofania (Miskina), the abbess of the convent, and the sisters. That same evening, pilgrims from India attended the festive All-night Vigil and venerated the relics of Blessed Matrona of Moscow. The guests presented the Pokrovsky Convent with a shroud embroidered in India with an image of the Russian saint.
