An Orthodox youth camp held in Hungary
DECR Communication service, 29.10.2024.
During the autumn holidays, high school students and university students fr om all over Hungary gathered at a youth camp organized by the Hungarian Diocese of the Moscow Patriarchate in the village of Rezi, near Lake Balaton and the thermal resort of Hévíz. Priests set up a temporary tent church and conducted educational discussions and catechism.
On Sunday, October 27, when the Church commemorated the Holy Fathers of the Seventh Ecumenical Council, a Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the youth camp. The service was led by the rector of the Hévíz parish, Archpriest Nikolai Kim, with the participation of priests Father Stefan Szegedi from Tokaj and Father Gellért Aranyosi-Vitéz from Szeged, as well as Deacon Stefan Vajno-Eliash from Hévíz. Hieromonk Ephraim (Szabó), a retired cleric of the Hungarian Diocese, prayed in the Altar.
The service was conducted in two languages—Hungarian and Church Slavonic, as reported by the diocesan website.
Archpriest Nikolai Kim delivered two sermons—one on the Scripture passage read that day and another on the significance of the dogmas adopted at the Seventh Ecumenical Council. The sermons were translated into Hungarian by Deacon Stefan Vajno-Eliash.
After the Liturgy, a fraternal meal was offered to all participants. Friendly communication continued in the garden under the shade of grapevines, wh ere priests and parishioners could share their impressions, experiences, and future plans.
Participants of the youth camp also visited the church under construction in Hévíz, dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God "Life-Giving Spring." Deacon Stefan, with the blessing of the rector, conducted a tour. After familiarizing themselves with the new church, which is being built according to the design of Hungarian architect László Váncza, inspired by the 12th-century St. George's Cathedral in Novgorod, a masterpiece of ancient Russian architecture, everyone prayed for the speedy completion of the construction work.
