DECR Communication service, 10.10.2024.
On 6th October in the village of Novosilki in the Kiev region a group of raiders from the ‘Orthodox Church of Ukraine’ seized the church building of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church dedicated to the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God. According to the source of information the telegram channel Dozor, the seizure was led by cleric of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Nikolai Medinsky.
It was reported that attempts have long been made to take the building away from the Orthodox. “First they seized the Saint Nicholas Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. But the raiders weren’t content with this. Activists from the Orthodox Church of Ukraine decided to go for a second church building and organized a meeting of the community at which documents were forged,” states a publication cited by the Union of Orthodox Journalists.
On this day a group of raiders broke into the territory of the church. When the parishioners of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church attempted to enter their church building a conflict broke out.
“The faithful called the police, whom Medinsky cynically informed that it was his church and that the Orthodox Christians were getting in his way. The sacred site remains occupied by criminals,” states Dozor.
Journalists have also stated that local activists before this had attempted three times to set for to the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Mother of God.
