Primate of the Assyrian Church of the East was awarded Russian Order of Friendship

A decree awarding the Order of Friendship to His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Mar Awa III of the Assyrian Church of the East was signed by the President of the Russian Federation, Mr Vladimir Putin, on November 22, 2023.

As the decree notes, the award marks His Holiness Mar Awa’s great contribution “to upholding and promoting religious and cultural traditions and strengthening peace and accord among nations.”

Since his accession to the Patriarchal throne, the Primate of the Assyrian Church of the East has visited Russia twice. For instance, from October 24, to November 1, 2023, His Holiness Catholicos-Patriarch Mar Awa III visited Moscow and the Vladimir Metropolia at the invitation of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’.
