The Holy Synod appoints a new head of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem.

On 11th October 2023 at the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, which was held at the Patriarchal and Synodal residence at Saint Daniel’s monastery in Moscow, a report was heard by the chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate the metropolitan of Volokolamsk Anthony on the dioceses and parishes abroad and a number of resolutions were adopted concerning the foreign activities of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The Synod’s participants particularly decided to release archimandrite Alexander (Yelisov) from his position as head of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem with expressions o gratitude for his labours and put him at the disposal of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia.
Archimandrite Vassian (Zmeyev) was appointed head of the Russian Spiritual Mission in Jerusalem.
The Holy Synod also decided to release the deputy head of the Mission hieromonk Dometian (Markaryan) from his position and put him at the disposal of the archbishop of Maikop and Adygea Tikhon.
