A Russian diplomat prayed at a litany at the tomb of Archimandrite Methodius (Petrov) on Valaam

On September 14, 2022, a funeral service was held at the grave of Archimandrite Methodius (Petrov; 1961-2021), a Macedonian inhabitant of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Monastery in Valaam.
The Litia for Archimandrite Methodius, which was served by Hieromonk David (Legeida), head of the skete in the name of the Smolensk icon of the Mother of God, was attended by: O. N. Shcherbak, who served in 2010-2018 as Russian Ambassador to Skopje, his wife L. V. Shcherbak, as well as a member of the Secretariat of the Department of External Church Relations on inter-Orthodox relations A. Khoshev.
O. Shcherbak laid flowers on the tomb of the Valaam confessor, whom he had known for a long time and had a fruitful collaboration of many years.

Archimandrite Methodius (secular name Venko Petrov) was born in 1961 in the Socialist Republic of Macedonia (SFRY). In 1992 he moved to Russia as a novice in the Holy Trinity Laura of St. Sergius and in 1993 was received into the brotherhood of the newly opened Valaam Monastery where he was admitted to the monastic order in 1994. Archimandrite Methodius (Petrov) was associated with the long path of rebirth and improvement of the Valaam Monastery. Having many spiritual children in the Russian Orthodox Church, Fr. He never severed his ties with his native Macedonia, where he enjoyed high authority.
Archimandrite Methodios (Petrov) died in 2021 from complications caused by a coronavirus infection. His grave in the Valaam monastery cemetery became a place of visitation and prayer for many people whom he supported with counsel and fatherly love on the paths of their spiritual life during the days of his earthly life.
