Holy Synod points out canonical imperfection in the consecration of a hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople with the participation of a schismatic
Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, reported about it at the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on April 13.
Having expressed its regret over the participation of the person without canonical ordination in the episcopal consecration in the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the Holy Synod noted that “this event deepens the schism in the Orthodox world caused by the actions of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.”
“Taking into consideration canonical imperfection in the consecration of Metropolitan Andreas of Saranta Ekklisies,” the Holy Synod stated with regret the impossibility of con-celebration with him in the event that, God willing, the Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople will be restored. “The same principle applies to the clerics that may be ordained by the aforementioned Metropolitan in future,” the resolution of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Synod says.
