Greeting the guests, Metropolitan Varsonofy said, “There are many Orthodox shrines in St. Petersburg, which we hold dear. We have a theological school. Studying there is a student from China. We are willing to receive more of your students. The Russian Orthodox Church is aware of her responsibility before the Orthodox in China and is ready to help them. St. Petersburg and Shanghai have are twin cities. There are Orthodox churches in Shanghai, and we are grateful to the Chinese government for restoring one of them. We would like to discuss an opportunity to use that church for humanitarian purposes.”
