Representative of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission Participates in Patriarchal Service at the Monastery of St Onuphrius the Great
On June 25, the feast day of St Onuphrius the Great, His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of the Holy City of Jerusalem and All Palestine presided over the Divine Liturgy at the women's Monastery of St Onuphrius the Great (Jerusalem Patriarchate) in Jerusalem.
Concelebrating with His Beatitude were hierarchs of the Jerusalem Patriarchate: Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina, General Secretary of the Jerusalem Patriarchate, and Archbishop Philoumenos of Pella, as well as clergy of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre and Greek, and Arabic-speaking clergy of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem.
Representing the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem, Hieromonk Peter (Borodulin), a member of the Mission, took part in the service, according to the Mission's website.
Praying at the Divine Liturgy in the monastery church were Archbishop Methodios of Tabor; the sisters of the Monastery of St Onuphrius and other convents of the Jerusalem Patriarchate; the sisters of the Russian Convent of Gorny; representatives of the local Orthodox Greek and Arab communities; Russian-speaking faithful of the Holy City and the surrounding towns; and pilgrims fr om various parts of the Holy Land.
The services were celebrated in Greek, Arabic, and Church Slavonic. The Gospel was read in Greek and Church Slavonic. The hymns for Matins and the Divine Liturgy were sung by the choir of the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre.
Following the clergy communion, Patriarch Theophilos delivered a homily to the faithful.
At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, the hierarchs, clergy, monastics, pilgrims, and faithful proceeded to the grave of Mother Seraphima Efthymiadou, a nun of the monastery, wh ere a memorial litia was served for the repose of her soul. They then gathered at the grave of the monastery's founder, Hieromonk Kyrillos, where His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos offered the prayer for the blessing of the first fruits.
