Divine Liturgy Celebrated at the Burial Place of St. John the Theologian in Turkey

On 21st May 2026, the Feast of the Holy Ascension and commemoration day of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian, Priest Georgy Sergeyev, who is responsible for providing pastoral guidance to the flock of the Russian Orthodox Church in the territory of the Republic of Türkiye, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at a basilica located at St. John’s burial site in the Turkish town of Selçuk, near ancient Ephesus.
Attending the Liturgy and partaking of the Holy Mysteries of Christ were pilgrims from Ankara, Izmir, Kuşadasi and Didim, as well as Russian citizens on holiday in Turkey. During the Litany of Fervent Supplication, the prayer for the Holy Rus’ was read.
After the divine service, Father Georgy delivered a sermon, Telegram channel of the Russian Orthodox Church’s communities in Turkey reports.
Father Georgy thanked the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism for the permission to celebrate the divine service at St. John’s burial place and expressed appreciation to the A.I. Solzhenitsyn Russian Society for Culture and its chairman, Mr A. Ponomarev, for assistance in organizing the pilgrimage.
