Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa Celebrated the Liturgy within the Walls of the Russian House in the Capital of Congo

On March 8, the Second Sunday of Great Lent, the day of commemoration of Saint Gregory Palamas, Archbishop of Thessaloniki, the Patriarchal Exarch of Africa, Metropolitan Konstantin of Cairo and North Africa, celebrated the Divine Liturgy within the walls of the Russian House in the city of Brazzaville, the capital of the Republic of Congo.
Concelebrating with the hierarch were Priest Georgy Maksimov, Chairman of the Missionary Department of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa; Priest Siluan Nkunku, dean of the parishes in the Republic of Congo, together with the clergy of that country; Priest Nikolai Musoya, dean of the parishes in the Democratic Republic of Congo, together with the clergy of the Kinshasa deanery of the DRC.
Present at the service were S.A. Sitnikova, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Congo; M.A. Fakhrutdinova, head of the Russian House; embassy staff; local faithful from various parishes of Congo; and Russian citizens.
At the memorial litany, the hierarch offered petitions for the repose of the souls of the newly departed John and Daniel, who were killed on March 6 in Nigeria.
The hymns of the Divine Liturgy were performed by a combined choir of parishioners, according to the Exarchate’s website.
At the conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Konstantin addressed the faithful with an archpastoral word. The Exarch greeted all those gathered and presented the head of the Russian House, M.A. Fakhrutdinova, with an icon of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and a Bible. After the service, the hierarch conversed with compatriots over tea.
Then the hierarch held a meeting of the clergy of the Republic of Congo and the Kinshasa deanery of the Democratic Republic of Congo, at which a number of issues of church life were discussed. At the meeting, Metropolitan Konstantin announced the decision to divide the deanery of the Republic of Congo into two deaneries.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the archpastor presented all the clergy with commemorative gifts, including copies of Orthodox literature prepared by the Spiritual and Educational Center of the Apostle Mark of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Africa.
