Conference on Eastern Christianity among Turkic Peoples: Historical Experience and Modern Challenges takes place at the St. Petersburg Theological Academy

On November 5–6, the St. Petersburg Theological Academy hosted an international scientific conference on “Eastern Christianity among Turkic Peoples: Historical Experience and Modern Challenges” in an in‑person and remote format.
The event was organized jointly with the St. Petersburg State University.
Taking part in the conference with the blessing of Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Department for External Church Relations, was Priest Georgy Sergeyev, who is responsible for pastoral care of the Moscow Patriarchate’s faithful in the Republic of Turkey.
Before the opening of the forum, the participants were greeted by Bishop Siluan of Peterhof, rector of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy.
Welcoming addresses were delivered by Dmitry V. Ovsiannikov, head of the Chair of Theology and Islamic Culture at the Institute of Theology of the St. Petersburg State University, and Priest Georgy Sergeyev.
The conference was held in sections on “History and Religion” and “Language and Culture.”
The conference ended with a roundtable discussion titled “The Russian Orthodox Church in the Republic of Turkey” with Priest Georgy Sergeyev as the leading expert. All participants had the opportunity to engage in open dialogue on the topic, discuss aspects of ministry in the country, the activities of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, and ask questions that came up during the dialogue.
