Chinese martyrs commemorated in Beijing

DECR Communication Service, 24/06/2025
June 23rd marks the commemoration day of the Holy Hieromartyr Metrophanes of Beijing and many other martyrs who suffered with him for Christ during the Boxer Rebellion in China in 1900.
On June 23rd, 2025, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Beijing located in the territory of the Russian Embassy (it used to be the territory of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in China where the martyrs had been killed).
The Liturgy was celebrated by Hieromonk Innokenty (Kolesnikov), rector of the Dormition Church. Con-celebrating with him were Priest Ioann Shchelokov, rector of the Orthodox Christian community in Shanghai, and Priest Andrei Bukhteyev, rector of the Archangel Michael Parish in Dalian.
The divine service was followed by a procession with the cross.
The Chinese martyrs were also commemorated at the Chinese Patriarchal Metochion in Moscow – the Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Golutvino – where the All-Night Vigil and the Divine Liturgy were celebrated.
On Sunday, June 29th, the Chinese Metochion in Moscow will host a festival in commemoration of the Chinese martyrs. This year marks the 125th anniversary of their martyrdom.
