Serbian scholars visit St. Petersburg Theological Academy

A delegation of the Serbian Patriarchate, consisting of protopresbyter Zoran Rankovič, Dean of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade, and Mr. Zoran Nedeljkovič, Director of the Library of the Serbian Patriarchate, visited St. Petersburg fr om April 2 to 5 with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia.
During their stay in the city on the River Neva, the guests saw the main attractions, venerated the St. Petersburg shrines, and visited academic libraries.
On April 4, the guests, accompanied by priest Yevgeny Timofeyev of the Protocol Department of the St. Petersburg Diocese, visited the St. Petersburg Theological Academy, wh ere they learned about the history and present day life of the educational institution and met with the rector, Bishop Silouan of Peterhof.
During the talk, they discussed students and teachers exchange programme, as well as the question of whether Serbian students can continue their studies at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade after graduation from the St. Petersburg Theological Academy.
The guests mentioned close relationships of the University of Belgrade with secular universities. Students of the Faculty of Theology, together with students of other faculties, including the Faculty of Medicine, render social and psychological assistance to those in need and thus are developing spiritually.
Also discussed was the popularization of Serbian manuscripts stored in Russia. Members of the delegation have a particular interest in the description and digitalization of these documents and open free access to them so that Serbian science could work with national sources, St. Petersburg Theological Academy’ press service reports.
At the end of the talk, Bishop Silouan thanked the guests for their visit and expressed hope for the development of relations between the St. Petersburg Theological Academy and the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade and the Library of the Serbian Patriarchate.
